Bloombub for big kids

8 Aug

What a sunny Sunday morning. My family is off to enjoy some sunshine while I loll about nursing a cold.

I have been asked by a few customers about t-shirts and singlets in sizes for medium fries (as I call them, or 4- 12 year old children to everyone else). I am most happy to create embellished t-shirts and singlets in larger sizes for your little cherubs!

Simply send me a note and I’ll check my stockists and advise a price or set up a custom listing – in most cases the larger sizes will be $2 more than the baby sizes. That means, Singlets for $10, and t-shirts for $12. Postage for 1 or 2 items remains $2.20

To whet your appetite, here’s a reminder of the upcycled singlets and t-shirts we’re sewing this spring:

Mini-Pinny madness

2 Aug

Apple green spots, Antique pink (SOLD) and Seaside blue

If you’ve been following Bloombub on Facebook, you’ll notice we’re on a bit of a Mini-Pinny marathon over here. It’s time to de-stash our old Fat Quarters to make room for the fabrics I’ve chosen for our Spring range. I’ll be steadily sewing away at the OOAK de-stash Mini-Pinnies throughout August, so join us on Facebook to keep updated, or check the Madeit store regularly.

The new Spring Mini-Pinnies are now all trimmed with broderie, and feature a crochet flower at the back (so your bub looks gorgeous from all sides!).

NEW Spring Mini-Pinny in Lilac. Print also available in Green

Here’s some of the new fabrics we’ve ordered in.

from Patty Young’s Flora and Fauna

Darla, Amy Butler and French General

Only 4 Mini-Pinnies will be made in each fabric, so there’s still an element of exclusivity and you won’t have any doppelgangers at the party… a custom made, exclusive outfit for less than $20?? I must be mad (or, I can’t do maths. More likely). If you would like a matching set of Mini-Pinnies for a special occasion, be sure to let me know and I’ll set the fabric aside for you.

I’m also eagerly awaiting some detail on a new market to start up here in Brisbane, organised by the fabulous ladies at The Mummy Tree. Depending on the cost of participating in the market, pricing of products may differ at our stall, so to make sure you get the best possible price, head over to Madeit or Etsy!

Any Mini-Pinnies from the stash that don’t sell online will make their way to these markets, as well as some embellished t-shirts for boys and girls, and some groovy lounge pants. I’ll also have a few Garden Party Dresses on show – I will continue to make these as cutom order only though (because they take sooo looonngg to get perfect). If you’re interested in a Garden Party Dress for spring, or for the festive season, let me know so I can schedule you into my production line!

Boys Zone

20 Jul

I keep hearing that there aren’t enough groovy clothes for boys – and while I agree, it’s always harder for Mums of girls to truly understand. So I put my Mummy network to the challenge, and developed some boyish groovy pants for my nephew Master R, and Susan’s boys, Master K and Master J.

And here’s what we came up with:

(Please excuse the photos, it appears little fingers have smudged my lens…)

These pants are all about comfort – wide legs, room for MCNs and deep pockets to hold treasures. The pockets can go on the front or the inside and are the perfect place for a bit of colour or a funky pattern. I prefer the pockets on the front – just a little bit retro….

Boys pants will be available for special order only from the Bloombub Madeit store in the next few days in basic denim, red or navy stripe, black or royal blue. Sizes from 6m to 3T. Available pocket detail fabric will be shown in the store listing.

New Bloombub t-shirts and singlets

18 Jul

Given the success of the embellished t-shirts earlier this month, I have put my fingers to work to create some more colour schemes for groovy babies and toddlers. Not everyone loves pink (!), although Little C certainly does.

Order through our Madeit store if you’d like one of these spring-inspired shirts. Singlets, short sleeve and long sleeve t-shirts are all available in white from size 000 to 4, and black or grey in selected singlet and long-sleeve sizes.

L-R: black and white; red poppy; black and silver.

Lavender; sunflower.

Madeit.com.au Marathon

13 Jul

Phew, what a weekend!

I spent hours (and hours) this weekend crocheting, stitching and sewing the 8 orders I received for embellished t-shirts and singlets between last Wednesday and Saturday morning.

That’s as many orders in three days as I’ve had in the previous two months. Not that I’m complaining, but I have noticed a sore spot on my fingers where the crochet hook as been digging in.

This explosion in sales was largely due to having our embellished t-shirts featured in Madeit’s Wednesday newsletter… WOW! I should know the true value of publicity, but nevertheless 8 orders was a bit of a shock to the system! I had to go and restock my singlets and t-shirts and I made a few in larger sizes than our normal range, but when it’s only stitching a rosette on a t-shirt, at least there’s no pattern making involved.

I also took the opportunity to make some little labels for my work. Previously this has been a bit sporadic, as I’ve not had any professionally printed. But I went the DIY route with some twill tape and iron on transfers and I think they turned out quite nicely! I have enough to see me through a few more orders, but I think an order of properly printed twill tape might be required (plus some size tags for the mini-pinnies and Garden Party dresses).

I also had the opportunity to try our my new all-recyclable packaging with so many orders to post. I have been keeping my packaging really simple until now, but a post from Tania at the CHA made me rethink my presentation. After-all, as she says, online shopping is a somewhat impersonal activity, and sellers need to make the buying and receiving process as warm and friendly as possible to maximise repeat business.

Kylie asked for gift wrapping of her Birdie gift set (above), so cute spotted paper was located, as was genuine ribbon, and all tied up with a crochet flower embellishment.

Our standard packaging however is just as sweet – brown paper bags (for small orders,  brown craft paper for larger); a strip of spotty paper and a business card to finish it off. I’m working through those business cards pretty quickly – I think it might nearly be time to engage a graphic designer to create a unique look for Bloombub.. any referrals?

The sale has inspired me to repost one of my newest creations, a sunflower t-shirt (available in white t-shirts and singlets, or grey long sleeves and singlets). Maybe a little bub in your life needs a pretty flower to warm up their winter?
